Time between sample injection and the emergence of the peak maximum of the sample component of interest.
Notes:
  1. Total retention time includes the hold-up time.
  2. The total retention time is related to the total retention volume (\(V_{\rm{R}}\)) and flow rate (\(F_{\rm{c}}\)) by \(t_{\rm{R}} = V_{\rm{R}}⁄F_{\rm{c}}\) .
