Groups having the structure $\ce{RS–}$ ($\ce{R} \neq \ce{H}$). This term is derived from sulfenic acids. The synonymous term sulfanyl groups is derived from sulfane, $\ce{H2S}$. E.g. $\ce{CH3–S–}$ methanesulfenyl, methylthio or methylsulfanyl.
