Defined by: \[A^{\sigma }=U^{\sigma }- T\ S^{\sigma }\] where \(U^{\sigma }\) is the surface excess energy, \(T\) is the thermodynamic temperature, and \(S^{\sigma }\) is the surface excess entropy.
