Defined by: \[H^{\sigma }=U^{\sigma }- \gamma \ A_{\rm{s}}\] where \(U^{\sigma }\) is the surface excess energy, \(\gamma \) is the surface tension, and \(A_{\rm{s}}\) is the area relative to a Gibbs surface.
