A process in which a solid or liquid, $\ce{\upbeta\!}$, is covered with a liquid, $\ce{\upalpha\!}$, both of which were initially in contact with a gas or liquid, $\ce{\updelta\!}$, without changing the area of the $\ce{\upalpha\!\updelta\!\mbox{-}}$interface.
