Arylmethyl groups and derivatives formed by substitution: ArCR2–, Benzyl,
C6H5CH2–
, is the prototype. The term 'benzylic position' or 'benzylic site' refers to the saturated carbon atom. A group, such as –OH, attached at a benzylic site is sometimes referred to as 'benzylic'.
