Equation relating the instantaneous composition of a binary copolymer to the monomer reactivity ratios and the ratio of instantaneous monomer concentrations.
Notes:
- The instantaneous composition of copolymer generally changes during the course of a copolymerization due to the changing composition of the monomer mixture (but see azeotropic polymerization).
- See also chain-end reactivity ratio, monomer reactivity ratios.
- Integrated forms of the copolymer composition equation have been developed to relate polymer composition to monomer reactivity ratios and monomer conversions.
- The copolymer composition equation is known also as the Mayo–Lewis equation.
