copolymerisation composition equation

synonym: Mayo–Lewis equation
https://doi.org/10.1351/goldbook.15391
Equation relating the instantaneous composition of a binary copolymer to the monomer reactivity ratios and the ratio of instantaneous monomer concentrations.
Notes:
  1. The instantaneous composition of copolymer generally changes during the course of a copolymerization due to the changing composition of the monomer mixture (but see azeotropic polymerization).
  2. See also chain-end reactivity ratio, monomer reactivity ratios.
  3. Integrated forms of the copolymer composition equation have been developed to relate polymer composition to monomer reactivity ratios and monomer conversions.
  4. The copolymer composition equation is known also as the Mayo–Lewis equation.
