polysilsesquioxane

https://doi.org/10.1351/goldbook.15301
Polymer composed of macromolecules containing silicon and oxygen atoms in the ratio \(1{:}1.5\) (ideal ratio for infinite macromolecule), which alternate in a hyperbranched or ladder structure such as:
polysilsesquioxane
where \(\ce{R}\) is alkyl, aryl, or heteroaryl.
polysilsesquioxane
Notes:
  1. The ideal value of the \(\ce{O{:}Si}\) ratio of \(1.5{:}1\) is achieved only in the case of a ladder polymer. For hyperbranched polysilsesquioxanes, the value of the \(\ce{O{:}Si}\) ratio is higher.
  2. Polysilsesquioxanes are a subclass of polysiloxanes.
