synonyms: polyoxysilylenes, silicones
https://doi.org/10.1351/goldbook.15300
Polymer composed of macromolecules containing alternating oxygen and silicon atoms in the backbone: \[\ce{-[-O\bond{-}SiR^{1}\!\,R^{2}\bond{-}]_{n}\bond{-}}\] where \(\ce{R^1}\) and \(\ce{R^2}\) are each hydrogen or an alkyl or aryl group.
Notes:
  1. Polysiloxanes are often referred to as silicones or polyoxysilylenes. Use of the last term is discouraged.
  2. Polysilsesquioxanes are a subclass of polysiloxanes.
Example:
polysiloxane
