Polymer composed of macromolecules containing exclusively oxymethylene or substituted oxymethylene constitutional repeating units in the backbone:

where \(\ce{R^1}\) and \(\ce{R^2}\) are each hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, or heteroaryl.

Note: A polyoxymethylene is also referred to as a polyacetal, polyketal, or acetal resin. Use of the last term is discouraged.
