Dosage form designed to release the drug contained therein at a continuous and controlled rate for a longer period of time that can normally be achieved with its conventional, nonsustained counterpart.
Notes:
- Per-oral administration of a single dose of a sustained-release product increases the duration of therapeutic action of the drug, beyond that achieved normally with a single dose of the corresponding non-sustained conventional counterpart.
- Sustained-release injectables are also available.
