crystalline

Term that describes a solid of regular shape and the presence of three-dimensional order on the level of atomic dimensions, for a given molecule.
Notes:
  1. Crystallinity may be detected by diffraction techniques, heat-of-fusion measurements, etc.
  2. Crystalline forms are often preferred, over amorphous forms, in pharmaceutical dosage forms, due to uniformity, reproducibility, and sometimes lack of hygroscopicity.
