Measures of how fast vital statistics change in a population (usually expressed per \(\pu{1000}\) individuals).
Note: There are two categories within vital rates, crude rates referring to change in the whole population (e.g., overall change in births and deaths per \(\pu{1000}\)) and refined rates referring to change in a specific demographic such as age, sex, race, etc.
