Attributed to Thomas Bayes (1702–1761), English mathematician. The term is used to designate concepts relating to inverse probability, especially Bayes’ theorem, a theorem expressing the probability of one of a number of mutually exclusive events \(H_{\rm{i}}\), given some other event \(E\), in terms of the probabilities of all the \(H_{\rm{i}}\) independently of \(E\) and the probabilities of \(E\) given each \(H_{\rm{i}}\).
