Precursor cell that is capable of differentiating into specific cell types of the nervous system.
Notes:
  1. The term typically refers to a cell that has further committed beyond an early neural stem cell, either by being located in a particular region of the nervous system or destined for a particular type of neuron.
  2. The renewal potential of neuroprogenitor cells is typically reduced relative to neural stem cells.
