That volume occupied by the liquid phase in the column. Defined by \[V_{\rm{L}}=\frac{w_{\rm{L}}}{\rho _{\rm{L}}}\] where \(w_{\rm{L}}\) is the weight of the liquid in the column, and \(\rho _{\rm{L}}\) is the density at the column temperature.
