Heating effect produced by certain gases (e.g. CO2, O3, etc.), which by virtue of their characteristic @IT07399@ absorption, lower the earth to space @T06477@ of long @W06659@ radiation but allow @T06477@ of shorter @W06659@ radiation inward from the sun to the earth.
