Definition
Retention time of a sample component the molecules of which are smaller than the smallest pores of the particles of the stationary phase.

Note
The total mobile phase time is related to the total mobile phase volume (in size-exclusion chromatography) (\(V_{\rm{t}}\)) and the flow rate (\(F_{\rm{c}}\)) by \(t_{\rm{t}} = V_{\rm{t}}/F_{\rm{c}}\) .
