Negative Napierian logarithm of the ratio of the intensity of radiation scattered (\(I_{\rm{s}}\)) by a non-absorbing sample to the incident intensity (\(I_{0}\)), divided by the path-length, \(l\). \[s = -\ln(I_{s}/I_{0})/l\]
