Experimental results, often numerical.
Notes:
- The term is plural; its singular form is datum.
- Data directly obtained from experimental apparatus may be referred to as raw data. Raw data may be subjected to numerical operations (unit conversions, etc.) to give transformed data, which maintain a point-for-point correspondence with the raw data. However, the use of the term "data" to refer to the results of numerical modeling operations or other elaborate calculations is controversial and discouraged. The latter are better referred to as "results" and, when presented graphically, are usually represented by smooth lines.
