synonym: polyurethane
https://doi.org/10.1351/goldbook.15273
Polymer composed of macromolecules containing carbamate (formerly urethane) or N-substituted carbamate linkages in the backbone: \[\ce{-NR-CO-O\bond{-}}\] where \(\ce{R}\) is hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, substituted alkyl, substituted aryl, or substituted heteroaryl.
Notes:
  1. A polymer containing only pendent carbamate (urethane) groups is excluded.
  2. The commonly used class name polyurethane has been derived from the historic name urethane for ethyl carbamate.
