Definition
Test in which a nonbenthic species, such as Daphnia magna, is exposed to an elutriate produced by mixing test sediment with water and then centrifuging the mixture.

Note
The elutriate test was developed for evaluating the potential effects of disposing of dredged material in open water. Analyses of elutriate samples measure the water-soluble constituents potentially released from sediment to the water column during dredge disposal operations
