Polymer composed of macromolecules that are macromolecular rotaxanes.
Notes:
- A narrower definition of rotaxane polymer: "Polymer composed of macromolecules consisting of cyclic molecules threaded by a linear macromolecule that is eventually capped with bulky end-units preventing dethreading of cyclic molecules" has previously been published.
- Though the synonym "polyrotaxane" currently appears in the literature, its use is discouraged. This term, from a purely semantic point of view, namely, implies many threaded rings, i.e., a polymer formed from a rotaxane, while a molecule of a rotaxane polymer can comprise a single threaded ring.
