Consequence of adverse effects caused by a substance on the environment and on organisms living in it.
Notes:
  1. Using the term is recommended when adverse effects concern water, air, sediments, etc.
  2. If only living organisms (animals, plants, microorganisms) are concerned, the use of toxicity is recommended.
