Granular leukocyte, the major circulating phagocytic polymorphonuclear granulocyte, having a nucleus with three to five lobes and fine cytoplasmic granules stainable by neutral dyes.
Notes:
- The cells have properties of chemotaxis, adherence to immune complexes, and phagocytosis.
- The cells are involved in a variety of inflammatory processes including late-phase allergic reactions and are also able to mediate antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC).
