Any of a large family of \(\ce{Ca^{2+}}\)-dependent lectins; members of this family share primary structural homology in their carbohydrate-recognition domains and include many endocytic receptors, many proteoglycans, and all known collectins and selectins.
Note: The C-type lectins are involved in many immune system functions, such as inflammation and immunity to tumor and virally infected cells, whereas the collectins are involved in innate immunity.
