non-reversing heat flow

In modulated-temperature DSC, the component of the total heat flow that is out-of-phase with the temperature modulation.
Notes:
  1. The out-of-phase component of the total heat flow relates to kinetic processes like crystallisation, melting, evaporation, or condensation.
  2. The term "non-reversing" must not be confused with "irreversible".
