Direct ionization of molecules at atmospheric pressure by electron detachment induced by photons forming \(\ce{M^{+.}}\), or atmospheric pressure chemical ionization in which the reactant ions are generated by photoionization of suitable dopant species and subsequent ion/molecule reactions of their molecular ions.
