Roof of the mouth, separating the oral and nasal cavities.

Notes:
  1. In embryonic development an anterior, primary palate is distinguished from a posterior, secondary palate.
  2. The embryonic primary palate gives rise to an anterior bony part called the hard palate, and a posterior muscular part called the soft palate.
