Sequence of recurring physiological
uterine,
ovarian, and other changes, induced by reproductive
hormones in higher female animals, resulting in readiness for
insemination. This cycle starts in
adulthood (at
menarche), transiently discontinues during
pregnancy, and disappears at the
menopause.
