Membrane extraction in which the membrane fully encloses an acceptor phase.

Note: Typically, a membrane filled with acceptor phase and formed into a sealed tube is immersed in the sample. As a passive sampling device, it is used to obtain time-weighted average concentrations for trace contaminants or to isolate them for toxicity assessment. With triolein as an acceptor phase, it is used to estimate the bioconcentration of contaminants in fatty tissues of organisms.
