Membrane extraction with a sorbent trap for concentration of the permeate.

Note: MESI is typically used in a system consisting of three components: (1) membrane extraction module; (2) sorbent interface; and (3) gas chromatograph. A flow of gas is used as the stripping phase to transfer permeate to the sorbent trap for concentration and thermal desorption into the gas chromatograph.
