Porous sorbent with surface-bound macrocyclic ligands designed for the extraction of metal ions and some anions from aqueous solution.

Notes:
  1. The selectivity of the extraction process depends on the stability of the host-guest complex, which can be optimized for individual ions by the choice of the macrocyclic cavity and the type of donor atoms.
  2. Extracted ions are recovered by elution with a solution of complexing agent with a higher binding constant than the surface-bound macrocyclic ligand.
