Extraction method wherein charged analytes are extracted from an aqueous phase into an organic phase, assisted by a chelating agent.
Notes: - The chelating agent replaces water molecules in the coordination sphere of the metal ions. Consequently, the resultant metal chelates have a hydrophobic character which facilitates their transfer to the organic phase.
- The analyte(s) are usually metal ions.
