Efficient procedure for planning combinations of values of factors in experiments so that the data obtained can be analyzed to yield valid and objective conclusions.
Notes:
  1. Experimental design is applied to determine the set of conditions that are required to obtain a product or process with desirable, often optimal properties. A characteristic of experimental design is that these conditions are determined in a statistically-optimal way.
  2. Response surface methodology is considered an important part of experimental design.
  3. An "experimental design" (noun) usually refers to a table giving the levels of each factor for each run.
