Category indicating a class of organisms within a recognized hierarchically structured nominal property value set.
Example: In the system "Blood" with the component "Staphylococcus", the application of the
kind-of-nominal-property "taxon" could give the
nominal property values "species Staphylococcus aureus, species Staphylococcus lugdunensis, and Coagulase negative staphylococci (CNS)". The value set comprises all species and groups of Staphylococcus that the procedure can identify.
Note: Taxonomy is the science of classification and its applications, usually regarding organisms.
