retention volume

in size-exclusion chromatography

Retention volume of a sample component, the molecules of which are smaller than the largest pores of the particles of the stationary phase but larger than the smallest pores.
Note: The corresponding retention time is related to the retention time (in size-exclusion chromatography) (\(t_{\rm{R}}\)) and the flow rate (\(F_{\rm{c}}\)) by \(V_{\rm{R}} = t_{\rm{R}} \times F_{\rm{c}}\).
