Definition
Assemblies of lipids and proteins in blood plasma transporting lipids between tissues.

Note
They are structurally very similar to intracellular lipid droplets. They are classified according to their size and buoyant density into five types with different functions: chylomicrons, very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), intermediate lipoproteins (IDL), low density lipoproteins (LDL), and high density lipoproteins (HDL).
