Diverse group of lipid molecules synthesised by chain elongation of an acetyl-CoA primer with malonyl-CoA (or methylmalonyl-CoA) groups.

Note: The fatty acyl category is further divided into multiple subclasses, including fatty acids and conjugates, icosanoid, fatty alcohols and esters, glycans, and others.
Examples: Palmitic acid, oleic acid, octanedioic acid, prostaglandin A1, leukotriene B4.
