Note: Target compounds can either be separated into individual protein/peptides or fractionated into groups with similar physicochemical properties (polarity, charge, relative molecular mass,
etc.). Different analytical separation methods are deployed to achieve this effect: liquid chromatography,
gel electrophoresis,
isoelectric focusing, affinity chromatography,
etc.
