Stopping cross section arising from energy transfer to atomic nuclei of the sample.
Note: The maximum of the nuclear stopping cross section occurs at energies of the order of \(\pu{1 keV}\) per nucleon, whereas that of the electronic stopping cross section occurs at above \(\pu{100 keV}\) per nucleon. The absolute value of the electronic stopping cross section maximum is significantly greater than that of the nuclear stopping cross section.
