Transformation of a semiconducting or insulating material to conducting state by protonation (hydronation) of its molecules.
Note: The proton doping is crucial for
polyanilines that are good conductors only in the protonated state. Deprotonation (dehydronation), as a reverse transformation is achieved by treating the doped polymer with an alkali.
