Interferometer in which the optical path difference is continually changed.
Notes:
- Continuous scan interferometer is typically used for Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy.
- In slow scan interferometers, the rate of change of optical path difference is less than \(\pu{0.05 cm s-1}\) and a mechanical chopper or some other ancillary modulation is frequently used to provide an adequate modulation frequency.
- In rapid-scan interferometers, the rate of change of optical path difference is above \(\pu{0.05 cm s-1}\), high enough that no additional modulation is needed.
